Jahangir seeks Turkish support for agri sector

Agriculture Adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd) today sought Turkish support for the country’s agriculture sector, saying big companies can invest here as agriculture logistics and processing sector is an evolving sector in Bangladesh.
The adviser sought the support while Ambassador of Turkey to Bangladesh Ramis Sen called on him at his ministry office in Dhaka, said a press release.
Jahangir mentioned that Bangladesh is importing agricultural machinery from various sources, including China.
“Turkey can invest in this sector,” he said, adding, “If factories are established in our country, this sector will be benefitted.”
During the meeting, they also discussed various issues, including agricultural mechanization, export of agricultural products, high-yielding cotton cultivation and research as well.
Ramis Sen highlighted the existing outstanding Bangladesh-Turkey relationship, mentioning that Turkey is one of the suppliers of textile machinery and chemicals to Bangladesh.
Expressing his country’s keenness to work in the field of agriculture of Bangladesh, he said that as one of the world’s most cotton producing countries, they have expertise in this regard.
The envoy said that his country is cooperating in establishing laboratories for the development of cotton in Bangladesh along with development of high-yielding cotton varieties.
He also said modern agricultural system has largely become dependent on machines. “If Bangladesh wants, they are interested to work on this,” he added.
The adviser also drew the attention of the ambassador about the import of fruits and vegetables from Bangladesh.
